Hi everyone!

My name is Jessica Cavanagh, and I am beyond honored and grateful to represent the Delta Psi Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega as our President! This chapter has given me a home, a greater purpose, and a sisterhood rooted in unconditional love and support, shaping my college experience in ways I could have never imagined. I feel incredibly lucky to share with you a glimpse into what Alpha Chi means to me!

Going into recruitment, I hoped to find a community that would make such a big school feel a little smaller, and somewhere I could truly feel at home in a place so new to me. Like many others, I was a bundle of nerves, and I put a lot of pressure on being a “perfect” version of myself. The moment I stepped foot into Alpha Chi during my first round, I was met with warmth and genuine kindness, immediately giving me a sense of comfort that put my nerves at ease. The women I talked to made me feel valued and inspired, and that initial feeling of being truly welcomed has never left me. As I went through the recruitment process, I learned that embracing my personality and letting go of who I thought I needed to be was what would yield the best results, and it was Alpha Chi who helped teach me that lifelong lesson.

Stepping into my role as President this past year has grown the love that I already had for this chapter even deeper. I have the privilege of working alongside some of the most inspiring women I have ever met, and I am constantly in awe of the way they show up for one another in all aspects of life. I am continually reminded of how special this chapter is, not only because of what we accomplish, but because of who we are as people. The care and connection I’m surrounded by makes me endlessly grateful to be a part of this community!

One of the most meaningful parts of our sisterhood is our chapter’s commitment to Domestic Violence Awareness, our national philanthropy. As college-aged women, this cause can be deeply personal, and it's something we approach with compassion and dedication to make a difference. We have the unique opportunity to support a local shelter here in Santa Barbara, Domestic Violence Solutions, and tangibly see the impact our advocacy has on the local community. At the heart of Alpha Chi Omega is our motto, “Real. Strong. Women.” To us, this means showing up for one another with authenticity and unwavering support. We believe in community, celebrating each other's wins, and empowering one another to grow.

As you go through recruitment, I urge you to be your authentic self and go all in! The Panhellenic community at UCSB is filled with incredible people and opportunities, and it truly has a place for everyone. Through Alpha Chi Omega, I have learned how to lead intentionally, embrace new experiences, and build friendships rooted in genuine sisterhood. I can confidently say I have found my best friends for a lifetime, and I hope you find that too as you run home!

LITB,

Jessica Cavanagh
