a letter from our chapter president
My name is Vanessa Hill, and I am extremely humbled to represent the Delta Psi chapter of Alpha Chi Omega as the 2020 Chapter President! When I think back to the day I stepped onto campus for the very first time, I would never imagine myself to be where I am today. Eager as can be to get involved and anxious to meet new friends, I joined the recruitment process. Never could I imagine how quickly this decision would impact my future.
My sorority has given me the security to authentically express myself while also pushing me to step outside of my comfort zone. It has given me the freedom to explore my passions while also being held accountable to push myself to excel academically and professionally.
Joining Alpha Chi Omega two years ago as a freshman, I was so in awe of the ambitious women around me. These women sparked the fire that gave me the drive to run for officer positions within Alpha Chi as a new member, apply for the honors college, join clubs outside of greek life, pursue professional opportunities both on- and off-campus, and eventually give me the confidence to run for chapter president as an incoming sophomore. They helped me learn what it really means to be a “real strong woman”. I continue to be inspired by the women around me that live out our chapter’s core values each and every day.
Getting to develop mentorship relationships with alumni, investing into our philanthropic efforts for domestic violence awareness with Domestic Violence Solutions and the Alpha Chi Omega foundation, and being surrounded with some of the brightest minds I’ve ever met, Alpha Chi opens doors for its members that I never even knew existed. I know all the opportunities I’ve had and will have are because of these women who have supported me every step of the way. But more importantly, it’s the genuine connections I’ve created that will last longer than my time at UCSB. These friendships that will last a lifetime are what I most truly will cherish.
I invite you to learn more about our sisterhood that is 135 years strong. If you’re at all uncertain about giving the experience as a Panhellenic woman a shot, just go for it. The people you’ll meet are irreplaceable, and the memories you’ll make are invaluable.
